Questions, answered plainly
What does the instant check actually look at?
WebWatch sends an HTTP request to the URL you enter and reports the response in plain English. It measures connection and response timings, reads the HTTP status, inspects the TLS certificate and selected headers, and checks basic page metadata. It does not run a browser or measure a complete visual page load.
Do I need an account to use WebWatch?
No. You can run a one-off check without signing up. A free account lets you save up to 10 sites for automatic five-minute checks and retain their recent history, and you can configure notification options for those sites.
What counts as my website being down?
WebWatch treats a check as failed when the saved URL cannot return an acceptable HTTP response within the check's limits. Causes can include DNS, connection, timeout, TLS or HTTP errors. Your confirmation-window setting controls how long failures must persist before an incident opens.
What happens when one of my sites goes down?
When the configured confirmation rule is met, WebWatch records an incident and updates the site's monitoring state. If you have configured email, push, webhook or escalation options, it attempts the relevant notifications. Delivery relies on external networks and providers, so notifications are not guaranteed.
How often are my saved sites checked?
Free accounts can save up to 10 sites, checked every five minutes. Premium accounts can save up to 50 sites and choose a one-minute or five-minute interval for each site.
Where do you check my site from?
Checks run from infrastructure operated by WebWatch, and the service does not promise a permanent location or fixed network route. Results describe reachability and response timing from the checking service at that moment, so they can differ from a visitor's experience. Use the history as one monitoring signal alongside reports from your users and provider.
What do the speed numbers mean?
Time to first byte shows how long the server took to begin its HTTP response. Total response time covers the request through receipt of the capped HTTP response body. These are server-side request measurements, not browser rendering or a complete visual page load.
